What Does a Custom Wall Mural Cost in the UK? (2026 Pricing Guide)

What a custom wall mural really costs in the UK in 2026: price per square metre, a size-by-size table, worked examples from our own estimator, and how it compares to wallpaper and hand-painted murals.

What Does a Custom Wall Mural Cost in the UK? (2026 Pricing Guide)

It's the first question almost everyone asks, and most websites dodge it. So here's a straight answer: a custom wall mural printed directly onto your wall in the UK typically runs from a few hundred pounds for a small logo up to a few thousand for a large, richly detailed feature wall. Below is the per-square-metre rate, a size-by-size table, worked examples and an honest comparison with the alternatives — so you can size up your own wall before you ask anyone for a quote.

The short answer: how much is a wall mural per m²?

Direct-to-wall printing starts from £150/m². That's the rate for smooth drywall with a straightforward design; textured surfaces and photographic detail carry a multiplier on top. Two other numbers shape a small job: a £300 minimum fee (so a tiny logo isn't priced as a fraction of a square metre) and a flat £95 travel charge that covers bringing the printer to your address.

Every wall is different, which is why the instant estimator on our home page gives you a live figure in seconds. The numbers below are worked examples from that same calculation — not marketing round numbers.

Wall mural cost by size

Standard-detail artwork on smooth interior drywall, travel included. A typical room wall is 2.4m tall, so the width does most of the work:

WallAreaTypical cost
Small panel / alcove (1.5m × 2.4m)3.6 m²£584–£686
Chimney breast (2m × 2.4m)4.8 m²£750–£880
Feature wall (3m × 2.4m)7.2 m²£1,081–£1,269
Full living-room wall (4m × 2.4m)9.6 m²£1,412–£1,658
Reception wall (5.4m × 2.4m)13.0 m²£1,876–£2,202
Warehouse / hall wall (8m × 3m)24.0 m²£3,399–£3,991

Note what the table shows: the rate is flat, so cost per square metre doesn't climb as the wall grows. Big walls are where printing is at its most competitive.

What actually drives the price

  • Size. We price by area, so a 3m × 2.4m wall costs more than a 2m × 2m one. Measure width × height in metres and multiply — that's your m².
  • Surface. Smooth drywall is the baseline. Exposed brick, concrete, glass, tile and exterior render need more prep and more ink to sit right, so they carry an uplift — brick and concrete modestly, glass and exterior work the most. See every surface we print on.
  • Detail. A flat colour field or clean logo prints faster than a photographic scene with fine gradients and deep shadow. Highly detailed artwork is the single biggest multiplier after size.
  • Travel. One flat charge covers getting the rig to your address. We're based in London and travel further afield for the right project.
  • Artwork. Already have a print-ready file? That costs nothing extra. Need the design developed from a concept or a mood board? We can, and it's quoted separately from the printing.

Real worked examples

These come straight from our estimator, travel included:

  • Small drywall feature wall (6.0 m², standard detail): £915–£1,075.
  • Detailed living-room mural on drywall (7.9 m², photographic): £1,618–£1,899.
  • Exposed-brick feature wall (7.9 m², detailed): £2,077–£2,438 — the brick surface is why it sits above the drywall equivalent.
  • Office reception logo wall (13.0 m², clean and standard): £1,876–£2,202.
  • Concrete wall in a commercial unit (18.0 m², standard): £3,192–£3,748.
  • A single small logo that falls under the minimum fee: roughly £363–£427 all in.

How it compares to the alternatives

Versus custom wallpaper. With wallpaper you're buying printed rolls plus the labour to paste and hang them, and you'll live with seams and repeat drops to match. Printed murals have no rolls, no paste and no seams: one continuous, photo-real image cured straight onto the surface. Once you add fitting to a bespoke wallpaper order, the two land in similar territory for a one-off custom design — and only one of them is seamless. We lay out the trade-offs in full in Printed Wall or Wallpaper? An Honest Comparison.

Versus a hand-painted mural. A skilled muralist is pricing days of their time on site, so cost scales with hours and detail rather than area — which is why a large, intricate hand-painted wall can run well beyond a printed one, and why it takes days rather than hours. Hand painting wins when you want visible brushwork and an original artwork. Printing wins on photographic accuracy, repeatability and speed.

Versus paint alone. Nothing beats a tin of emulsion on price. If what you want is a flat colour, paint it. The moment you want an image on the wall, the comparison changes.

Office and commercial murals

Commercial walls are usually large, clean-detail and logo-led, which is the cheapest combination per square metre — a reception wall often costs less than a smaller, photographic domestic one. Printing on site also avoids the thing that makes office graphics expensive: no scaffolding-days for a painter, no closing the space for a week. Most walls are done in hours, out of hours if you need. See office wall branding ideas and our full service list.

Five ways to keep the cost down

  • Print the whole wall, not a floating panel. The rate is per m² either way, but a full wall reads as designed rather than as a sticker.
  • Choose drywall over brick where you have the choice. Smooth surfaces are the baseline rate.
  • Simplify the artwork. Bold graphic designs cost less than photographic ones and often suit a room better.
  • Supply print-ready artwork if you already have a designer.
  • Do neighbouring walls in one visit. Travel is charged once per visit, not per wall.

Does a 3D effect cost more?

Only through detail, not through any special process. 3D wall art is an optical effect — perspective, shading and light drawn so a flat wall appears to open up — and it prints exactly like any other image. Because those designs are typically photographic, they usually price at the detailed rate. Nothing is raised or embossed; here's how the illusion actually works.

What's included, and what isn't

A quote covers the printing itself, the ink, our time on site and the travel charge. It assumes a sound, clean, reasonably flat wall — if yours needs filling, sanding or sealing first, that's ordinary decorating work you can do yourself or have us quote for. Our guide to preparing a wall for mural printing tells you exactly what "ready" looks like. The finished print is cured on contact and built to resist fading and scratches for around a decade; this is why.

How to get an exact quote

You don't need a site visit and we don't need to guess. Send a few photos and rough measurements and we'll quote your wall remotely, usually within 24 hours — no charge, no obligation. Get a free quote, or try the instant estimator first to see roughly where your wall lands. Browse recent projects if you'd rather see the finished thing before you talk numbers.
